H2o Ride and The Story of the Thirsty
Cheers rang out from the Living Water staff around 5pm Tuesday evening, but it had nothing to do with the end of the work day in Stafford, TX. Gathered outside in front of a “Team Living Water” banner at Living Water International headquarters, a group of staff members eagerly greeted the H2o riders as they finished their 142nd day of 145 days of cycling around the country to raise money and awareness for clean water.
Wednesday was a day of rest for the team as they visited with Living Water staff in the office, but they still had 167.9 miles to go to complete their route goal in Austin, TX. Read below to find out more about the entire journey these advocates have been a part of and consider helping them achieve their fundraising goal to provide clean water for thousands of Ethiopians.
For the last five months, this team has been riding their bicycles around the country—literally—on something they call the H2o Ride. When their route is complete, they will have ridden 8,840 miles. That’s one mile for every 100 thousand people without access to safe, clean drinking water.
Together, they have raised over $20,000 to bring life-giving water to drought and famine stricken areas of Ethiopia, but the riders are thirsty to give even more. They’ve got a few more days until their ride is complete, but the journey doesn’t end when they stop pedaling. Because the story of the thirsty continues—and even if we can’t hop on our bikes and ride around the country like these guys did, that doesn’t mean we can’t do something about it.
Take a look at this video to learn more about the story of the thirsty, the H2o riders, and how you can help. Help them achieve their goal to give thousands of Ethiopians access to safe water.
Oh my goodness, that is a lot of riding and a lot of people who are without clean drinking water. It does seem as if this organization is well on its way to stopping this problem and I hope for more success in the future.
